MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Beverly Ann Johnson, 64, of Marble Hill died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019, at Woodland Hills.

Born April 21, 1955, she was the daughter of Norman and Mary Imogene Stowers VanGennip. She and Ivan "Johnny" Johnson Jr. were married May 5, 1973, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Glennon, Missouri.

During her life, she worked at the Bank of Marble Hill, Farm Service Agency in Bollinger and Cape Girardeau counties and, lastly, for 22 years as a secretary at Woodland High School. She retired in July 2017, due to ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

She was active in the Marble Hill community and with school functions and was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Leopold, Missouri, serving with the parish Council of Catholic Women and also as the group's president. She had served as an alderwoman with the City of Marble Hill, and she owned B Annie's Flowers and Gifts in Marble Hill for two years before her illness.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, Joshua (Libby) Johnson of Cape Girardeau, Emily (Packy) Johnson of Sedgewickville, Missouri, Katie (Travis) Blanton of Jackson, Luke (Lotte) Johnson of Glen Allen, Missouri, and Lauren (Boone) Gaines of Marble Hill; father, Norman VanGennip of Cape Girardeau; sister, Cathy Prost of Cape Girardeau; and 14 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother and two brothers, Danny and David VanGennip.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with parish rosary at 7 p.m., today at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Catholic Church in Leopold, with the Rev. David Coon officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.

Beverly received and enjoyed flowers on a regular basis, so she requested, in lieu of flowers, to make donations where it is most needed, to Marble Hill Food Pantry or Woodland School Backpack Plus Program. The funeral home will assist with envelopes.
