Beulah B. "Gertrude" Thorn, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at Woolland Hills Nursing Home in Marble Hill, Mo. She was born May 8, 1924, in Cape Girardeau County, to Clarence and Alpha McElreath Mungle. Mrs. Thorn was a waitress and cook all her life at various restaurants in St. Louis. Beulah B. "Gertrude" Thorn, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at Woolland Hills Nursing Home in Marble Hill, Mo.

She was born May 8, 1924, in Cape Girardeau County, to Clarence and Alpha McElreath Mungle.

Mrs. Thorn was a waitress and cook all her life at various restaurants in St. Louis. She also did private housekeeping over the years.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include a son, Edward Percy of Fredericktown, Mo.; daughter, Janet Cleaves of Macon, Ga.; nieces Verna Cordia of Oak Ridge and Alice Rendleman of Cape Girardeau; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by parents, two sons, two daughters, three brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. Daniel Hale officiating.

Burial will follow in Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
