Bettye Crockett, 86, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022, at Fountainbleau Lodge. She was born Jan. 17, 1936, in Bolivar, Tennessee. Bettye Crockett, 86, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022, at Fountainbleau Lodge.

She was born Jan. 17, 1936, in Bolivar, Tennessee.

Bettye studied business administration at Southeast Missouri State University. She then served as a professional secretary to the Dean of College at Southeast Missouri State University from April 1981 to April 2002.

Bettye was a member of the La Croix United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau. She was also active in Al-Anon and enjoyed playing bridge.

Bettye loved her boys, her granddaughter and great-granddaughters. She would talk endlessly about them. She also had many pets throughout the years that she thoroughly enjoyed. Bettye was a self-taught artist and would share her work with others. She also was a master gardener.

Survivors include her sons, Aj Stembel Jr., Michael Stembel, Brett (Cherie) Stembel and Brad Crockett; granddaughter, Jillian (Charles) Ruggerio; great-granddaughters, Ava and Mia Ruggerio.

A celebration of life will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Feb. 25 at LaCroix United Methodist Church in room 109.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Crain Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Cape Girardeau.
