Betty L. Whittington, 90, of Jackson passed away Monday, July 29, 2019, at her daughter's home.
She was born Jan. 21, 1929, in Thompsonville, Illinois, to Everett and May V. Moore Skinner. She married John Whittington on July 27, 1949, in Piggott, Arkansas. They had been married nearly 53 years when John passed away July 19, 2002.
Betty and John lived in Chester, Illinois, and Cave City, Kentucky, moving to Jackson in 1973. Betty was an avid fisherman and shared her enthusiasm with her grandchildren. She also had a love for animals, especially her dogs. She was a member of Silver Jubilee Teamsters Retirees Club in Cape Girardeau.
Loving survivors include three daughters, Linda Lee Shepard, Kathy Jo (Steve) Siebert and Gaye Lynn Laird, all of Jackson; three grandchildren, Nick Laird of Palm Bay, Florida, Zach Laird of Jackson and Scott (Patti) Whittington of Jackson; seven great-grandchildren, Brent (Amber) Whittington of Scott City, Haylie and Kaysie Laird of Palm Bay, Caitlyn Pfieffer of Pacific, Missouri, Chastity (Tom) Aubuchon of Pace, Florida, Allie (Caleb) Abernathy of Jackson and Keaton Birk of Cape Girardeau; and seven great-great-grandchildren, Collin, Ben, Charlotte and Matt Aubuchon, Cayden Boley and Billy and Emmett Whittington.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Wanda Gerlach.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel in Jackson.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ron Watts officiating. Interment will be private at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
