Betty L. Smith, 86, passed from this world to enter her heavenly place Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at Ratliff Care Center.

Betty was born July 10, 1930, in Yount, Missouri, to the late George and Mabel Huber. She married Charles E. Smith on Jan. 10, 1949, and with that union had two sons.

She was a member of the Lutheran faith. She served on the building committee for St. Mark Lutheran Church and St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

Betty was a person of many talents. She was a den mother for her two sons when they were Cub Scouts. She was a Bible-school teacher at St. Mark Lutheran Church.

She became a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in December 1978 and was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Her first job was working for the Teamsters Union from the early 1950s to the early 1960s. She then worked at Montgomery Ward until it closed and then retired from Georgia Pacific Lumber.

She was always the one to give and never asked to receive.

Survivors include her two sons, Charles E. Smith Jr. and Randy (Ginger) Smith of Cape Girardeau; a granddaughter, Shealee (Blake) Best of Cape Girardeau; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, with the funeral at 1 p.m., at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. Donny Ford will officiate. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.
