SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Betty L. Backus Moit, 71, of Scott City died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at her home. She was born May 17, 1930, in St. Louis, daughter of Theodore and Mattie Cook Goodman. SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Betty L. Backus Moit, 71, of Scott City died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at her home.

She was born May 17, 1930, in St. Louis, daughter of Theodore and Mattie Cook Goodman. She first married Don Backus, who preceded her in death. She and George B. Moit Sr. were married July 23, 1993, at Benton, Mo.

Moit owned and operated Bridgeway Restaurant from 1979-88. She was a member of Red Star Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Donna Tuttleton of Cape Girardeau, Janet Mierisch of St. Louis, Jackie Kelso of Scott City; a stepson, George Moit Jr. of Benton; four stepdaughters, Carolyn Schaefer of Bell City, Mo., Betty Moit of Scott City, Teresa Jackson of Hayti, Mo., and Patricia Carnell of Dutchtown, Mo.

She is also survived by a sister, Rosemary Ford of Pocahontas, Mo.; three half brothers, Jack and Ronnie Owens of Scott City, Mickey Owens of Chaffee, Mo.; two half sisters, Virginia Williams and Connie Taylor of Wappapello, Mo.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and nine great-stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The Rev. Donny Ford will officiate. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.
