Betty Jane Melvin, 90, of Jackson completed her journey home Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born March 18, 1929, in Cape Girardeau County, daughter of Roy W. and Laura Koeppel McLain. Betty worked at the Jackson Hosiery Mill and then for Procter & Gamble, retiring after 22 years. Betty Jane Melvin, 90, of Jackson completed her journey home Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born March 18, 1929, in Cape Girardeau County, daughter of Roy W. and Laura Koeppel McLain.

Betty worked at the Jackson Hosiery Mill and then for Procter & Gamble, retiring after 22 years. She was a member of Lynnwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau and was active in the ladies' Sunday school class.

Betty had a sweet disposition and was always kind, considerate, caring and giving to all. Her family will cherish her life and carry her memory in their hearts.

Loving survivors include four children, Dennis Littleton of Jackson, Carolyn (Lane) Stearns of Millersville, Marilyn (Donald) Conrad of Jackson and Barbara (Gary) Hartle of Murray, Kentucky; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma Shipp of Cape Girardeau; four brothers, Fred McLain and Jesse McLain of Jackson, James McLain of Wood River, Illinois, and John McLain of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Roy, Richard and Glenn McLain; and three sisters, Ruth Burchyett, Marie Hampton and Erma McDowell.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

The family suggests contributions be made to the church of your choice.
