Betty Jean Davis, 62, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Heartland Care Rehab Center. She was born Nov. 20, 1941, in Brinkley, Ark., daughter of John Henry and Amanda Betts Payne. She and Clifton Davis were married in 1973 in Cape Girardeau. He died in March 2001...

Betty Jean Davis, 62, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Heartland Care Rehab Center.

She was born Nov. 20, 1941, in Brinkley, Ark., daughter of John Henry and Amanda Betts Payne. She and Clifton Davis were married in 1973 in Cape Girardeau. He died in March 2001.

Davis was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Calvin Payne of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Patricia Newbern and Lisa Johnson of Cape Girardeau; five stepdaughters, Shirley Thomas of Chicago, Doris Jones and Carolyn Davis of Cahokia, Ill., Callie Scott and Gestel Davis of Cape Girardeau.

Also surviving are four brothers, Terry, Chris and Robert Payne of Cape Girardeau, J.C. Betts of Niles, Mich.; four sisters, Doris Harris of St. Louis, Joyce Mitchell of Palo Alto, Calif., Maybelle Whitby of Brinkley, Ermalene Jenkins of Cape Girardeau; 27 grandchildren; 33 stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and 26 great-stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, and two stepsons.

Friends may call at New Bethel Church from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Johnny Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
