Betty Bowers

Betty J. Bowers, 88, formerly of Gordonville, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at the Lutheran home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Dec. 20, 1935, in Winchester, Tennessee, daughter of William and Martha George Frazier. She and Estel Bowers were married on Jan. 5, 1953. He preceded her in death Jan. 24, 2015.

Betty attended school in Grayridge. She went to beauty school and worked as a beautician in Rockford, Illinois. Betty and Estel returned to Jackson, and she went to work as a communications operator at Saint Francis Medical Center for many years.

She was a very active member of the Fruitland Church of Christ.

Loving survivors include two daughters, Debbie (Jim) Schmidt of Marble Hill and Sheilah (Steven) Enderle of Rockview; three grandchildren, Daniel Schmidt, Shannon (Chet) Sproles and Jessica (Dave) Bogenpohl; five great-grandchildren, Brittany, Leighton, Harley, Sydney and Lexi; two great-great-grandchildren, Shiloh and Ryes; and a brother, Larry (Jan) Frazier of Morehouse.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Maxine Hayes; two brothers, Gary and Billy Joe Frazier; and a grandson, Jeremy Reeves.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 17, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 17, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Josh Yates officiating. Interment will follow the service at 1 p.m. in Hagy Cemetery in Dexter.

The family suggests that contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Southeast Missouri Pets, formerly Humane Society of Southeast Missouri.
