BESSIE L. JOHNSON

JACKSON -- Bessie L. Johnson, 90, of Jackson died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 1994, at the Lutheran Home in Jackson.

She was born Jan. 16, 1904, at Neely's Landing to Marion and Lilly Ackman Craft.

She married Brian Johnson on April 21, 1923. He preceded her in death June 2, 1961.

Johnson is survived by three daughters, Virginia McCullough of Whitewater, Norma J. Stroder of Granite City, Ill., and Virgie Reynolds of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Emil Craft of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Vivian Proffer of Crump, and Alpha Hedge and Vernice Yount of Cape Girardeau; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son and three brothers.

From 1961 until 1980, Johnson performed private care in homes for the homebound.

She was a lifelong member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church at Crump and worked many years in the nursery of the First Baptist Church at Jackson.

She had been a resident of the Lutheran Home since August.

Friends may call McCombs Funeral Home today from 4 to 9 p.m.

Funeral service will be at the funeral home Friday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery.
