MOUND CITY, Ill. -- Bessie Atherton, 94, of Mound City died Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at Union County Hospital in Anna, Ill.
She was born May 26, 1913, at Mound City, daughter of Mitchell and Della Evertts Lessar.
Atherton was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mound City. She worked as a cook at Meridian School.

Survivors include a daughter, Sue Pugh of Benton, Ky.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She requested no services.
Crain Funeral Home in Ullin, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.
