FARRAR, Mo. -- Bertha F. Hughey, 79, of Farrar died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, at Kindred Hospital at St. Anthony's in St. Louis, from injuries received in a car accident Oct. 4. She was born Oct. 11, 1935, at Neals Creek in Bixby, Missouri, daughter of Montie "Loyd" and Janie Flowers Stricklin. She was the fifth of 15 children. She and Patrick Eugene Hughey were married July 25, 1953, in Perryville, Missouri. He preceded her in death April 13, 2009...

FARRAR, Mo. -- Bertha F. Hughey, 79, of Farrar died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, at Kindred Hospital at St. Anthony's in St. Louis, from injuries received in a car accident Oct. 4.

She was born Oct. 11, 1935, at Neals Creek in Bixby, Missouri, daughter of Montie "Loyd" and Janie Flowers Stricklin. She was the fifth of 15 children. She and Patrick Eugene Hughey were married July 25, 1953, in Perryville, Missouri. He preceded her in death April 13, 2009.

Bertha was an avid gardener and quilter. She loved the outdoors and going to yard sales and auctions. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church at Farrar.

Survivors include a son, Sam (Rose) Hughey of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri; a daughter, Rita (Mark) Diamond of Perryville; five siblings, Leon (Grace) Stricklin of Belgrade, Missouri, Veatrice (Carl) Brooks of Belgrade, Laverne (Janice) Stricklin of Salem, Missouri, Sue (Sam) Wright and Debbie (Don) DeClue of Belgrade; five grandchildren, Laura Hughey, Rebecca Coin, Nathan Hughey, Ian Diamond and Hayley Diamond; four great-grandchildren, Shelby, Madison, Evan and Coby; and a special friend, Howard Parmer of Bloomsdale, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six sisters, three brothers and a great-granddaughter, Samantha Hughey.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 6:30 to 8 a.m. Saturday at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Salem Church in Farrar, with the Rev. Roger Abernathy officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery at Farrar.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred for family use.
