STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- Bernard J. "Ben" Winters, Sr., 90, of Ste. Genevieve died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Crystal City, Mo.
He was born Aug. 21, 1916, AT Willamina, Mo., son of William Winter and Anna Haunert Winter.
He was a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus Council 1037; Ward 1 alderman for 10 years; usher at Church of Ste. Genevieve for more than 20 years; active with the Boy Scouts Leadership and employed at Mississippi Line for more than 45 years.
Survivors include five sons, Bernard Winters Jr., Wayne Winters, David Winters, all of St. Louis, John Winters of Ste. Genevieve, Paul Winters of Union, S.C.; three daughters, Helen Moro of Fort Pierce, Fla., Mary Jane Bahr, of Ballwin, Mo., and Kathleen Birkbigler of Cape Girardeau; one brother, Valentine "Val" Winter of Taunton, Mass.; 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, three brothers and a sister.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Basler Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Church of Ste. Genevieve, with the Rev. Daniel Mosley officiating.
Burial will be in Valle Spring Cemetery at Ste. Genevieve.
