ORAN, Mo. -- Bernard Anthony "Barney" Tenkhoff, 92, of Oran died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Jan. 9, 1921, in Cape Girardeau, to Leo and Mary M. Metz Tenkhoff. He married Betty Elaine Watkins on Feb. 17, 1947. She preceded him in death Nov. 11, 2000.
Bernard was part owner and then owner of EW Sales Auto Supply. Years ago he owned and operated a movie theater. He was a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving as a sergeant 3rd marine in the Pacific during World War II from early 1942 to the end of the war in 1945.
Survivors include a son, Mark (Linda) Tenkhoff of Jackson; a brother, Glen "Shug" (Mabel) Tenkhoff of Oran; three grandchildren, Brian (Jacqueline) Tenkhoff, Blake (Rachael) Tenkhoff and Mary "Caitie" Tenkhoff; and a great-granddaughter, Aubrey Tenkhoff.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Guardian Angel Church, with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop as celebrant. Burial will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery, with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Guardian Angel Church Building Fund, 514 Church St., Oran, MO 63771.
