Bernard L. Hayden, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, March 11, 2002, at Heartland Care Rehab Center.
He was born June 7, 1920, at Fancy Farm, Ky., son of John and Bessie Toon Hayden. He first married Margaret Williet in 1939, who preceded him in death. He and Clareita Curtis were married in 1946. She died in 2000.
Hayden lived in Modesto, Calif., 54 years and was a truck driver. He retired in 1960. Hayden moved to Cape Girardeau in 2000. He was a member of Teamsters Local in Modesto and St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau.
He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II.
Survivors include a son, William Hayden Sr. of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Pat Greer of Cape Girardeau, Betty McBride of Edmond, Okla.; a brother, James Hayden of Tacoma, Wash.; a sister, Mary Mobyes of Mayfield, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a stepgrandchild.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Jerome Cemetery in Fancy Farm. The Rev. Delma Clemons will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 26 in Mayfield.
