CAIRO, Ill. -- Bernadyne Elizabeth Alvey, 83, of Champaign, Ill., formerly of Cairo, died Saturday, March 12, 1994, in Champaign.

She was born in Cairo on Oct. 10, 1910 to Luther and Edith Youch Murdugh.

She married Clarence Alvey in 1927 at Memphis, Tenn. He died in 1952.

She held several jobs over the years and was office manager for the Alexander County Housing Authority for 25 years before her retirement in 1978.

She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Cairo and served for more than 60 years as pianist, organist and choir director. She also served as treasurer and board member of the church. She held the musician's chair of the Rebecca Lodge.

She is survived by one son, Donald Eugene Alvey of Paducah, Ky.; a daughter, Doris Alvey Jones of Champaign; four grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo with the Rev. Richard Pigg officiating. Burial will be in the Beechwood Cemetery in Mounds, Ill.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
