Benjamin Borchelt

Benjamin A. Borchelt, 92, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at the Lutheran Home.

He was born May 22, 1914, in Egypt Mills, son of August and Agnes Scholl Borchelt. He and Sarah Hanschen were married April 9, 1939, at Gordonville.

Mr. Borchelt held a B.S. in engineering and a law degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

He was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. He was a patent examiner in the U.S. Patent Office in Washington, D.C., 39 years, from 1935 to 1974, at which time he retired.

He moved to Cape Girardeau in 1975. He was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school many years.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Ben James (Carol) Borchelt of Rockville, Md., Paul D. (Bernadette) Borchelt of Richland, Mo., Joel P. (Debra) Borchelt of Evans, Ga.; a daughter, Margaret (John) Horn of Davenport, Iowa; a brother, Archie Borchelt of Accokeek, Md.; a sister, Lucille Keller of Cape Girardeau; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul Short officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to St. Andrew Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Home, or the charity of choice in lieu of flowers.
