LOWNDES -- Ben Wilfong, 78, of Lowndes died Friday, May 1, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born March 8, 1920, at Hiram, son of Thomas and Martha Elizabeth Carver Wilfong. He and Mary Morgan were married April 22, 1950, in Piggott, Ark.
Wilfong lived in the Lowndes area all his life. He attended Corinth Baptist Church, and was a member of American Legion in Arkansas. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Eugene Wilfong of Marble Hill, Dale Wilfong of St. Charles, Robert Wilfong of Marquand; two daughters, Mary Sander of Scopus, and Jennie Colbert of Lowndes.
Also surviving are seven brothers, Milford Wilfong of Tipton, Coy Wilfong of Campesville, Ill., Lester Wilfong of Edwardsville, Ill., Dick Wilfong of Lowndes, Clarence Wilfong of Whitewater, Wendell and Kenneth Wilfong of Otterville; a sister, Shirley Barkley of Atlanta, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
Friends may call at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico from 6-9 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Loyd Green and Stephen Sander officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery at McGee.
