Vera Rebecca "Becky" Illers, 95, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Lutheran Home.

She was born Dec. 9, 1928, in Cape Girardeau to Edwin Paul and Vesta Slinkard Schlegel. She and Harold Wilson Illers were married May 1, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death Aug. 30, 2020.

Becky was a graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School.

She was an operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone. After raising her children, she worked at Sears in the hardware and draperies departments.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Greg (Linda) Illers of Cape Girardeau; daughter, Lisa (Tim) Kerr of Jackson; seven grandchildren, Cliff (Lindsey) Illers, Kacie (John) Kirk, Clay (Kaci) Illers, Talor (Josh) Ly, Tucker (Aleisha) Thrower, Claire (Luke) Moll and Cianna (Trenton) Thompson; and 13 great-grandchildren, Kaylin Stroud, Weston Stroud, Mila Kirk, Jaida Ly, Scout Ly, Kason Illers, Stella Illers, Hudson Moll, Keller Illers, Huntley Thompson, Jace Thompson, Ryder Thrower and Jett Thrower.

Becky was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Charles and Larry Schlegel; and four sisters, Rosemary Soehlig, Betty May Johnson, Margie Schlegel and Helen Maintz.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford and Pastor Tucker Thrower officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of your choice.
