Beatrice C. Corbett Sargent, 96, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, June 2, 2007, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born in Pearl City, Ill., daughter of William J. and Margaret Schasker Corbett. She and Howard Sargent were married Feb. 2, 1928, in Princeton, Ill. He died Oct. 25, 1954.

Sargent retired from the University of Illinois at Champaign after serving 21 years as the chief clerk of the office supply department. She had been a longtime volunteer for the American Red Cross. Sargent was a member of Eastern Star over 50 years.

Survivors include two sons, Don Sargent and wife, Betty, of Cape Girardeau; Frederick Sargent of Cape Girardeau; a daughter-in-law, Linda Sargent of Macon, Ill.; and a sister, Joyce Corbett of Chicago.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Phillip Sargent (2004); three brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Saunemin United Methodist Church in Saunemin, Ill.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Saunemin United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Pinckney Love officiating.

Burial will be at the Sunnyslope Cemetery in Saunemin.

Memorials may be made to American Red Cross.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
