OLIVE BRANCH, Ill. -- Barry Bryon Fry, 73, of Olive Branch passed away at 8:49 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Barry was born Dec. 2, 1940, at White Hall, Ill., son of the late Paul I. Fry and Juanita Dowdy Fry.

Barry married his former wife, Betty Rulo, in 1966, and together they had one son, Brian Fry of Illinois.

Barry later married Phyllis Doerr Hartley on June 25, 1990, in Las Vegas, and she survives of Olive Branch.

Barry retired from Monsanto in 1990 after 25 years as a senior electrical engineer designer. Barry was a Navy veteran and an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved making wine and enjoyed his woodworking. He could make anything; just show him a picture or a description and he could master it. Barry love to hunt mushrooms, gardening and cooking Cajun food. Barry had many gifts in school: wrestling, balancing beams, bars and ropes. He was a golfer and excellent swimmer and had a trophy from all. Barry was a Boy Scout leader in 1977, served as a past president of the Alexander-Pulaski County Sportsman Club in Miller City, Ill., and belonged to the Wood River Moose Club.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and stepfather, Donald Chappel.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Fry of Olive Branch; four children, Brian Fry, John (Frannie) Hartley II, Tara (Dave) Winfree and Cheryl (Barry) Craig, all of Illinois; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Cheryl (Dickie) Rulo of Illinois; two nieces; and cousins Margaret McClellan and Joe Dowdy.

Barry said he gained new dependents of his Yorkies Sir Arthur, Smokey Joe, Miss Hannah, Nick Nick and Little Nora.

When Barry joined the U.S. Navy, he and his three buddies of high school enlisted together. They all got bluebird tattoos and have remained friends and buddies all these years.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms, Ill.

Funeral services for Barry B. Fry will be at 4 p.m. today the funeral home, with Dave Winfree officiating.

The funeral procession will leave the funeral home for Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City, Ill., at 12:15 p.m.

Interment will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Mound City National Cemetery, with full military honors given by members of the Illinois National Guard and area veterans.

Memorials may be made to Alexander County Ambulance Services, Olive Branch Fire Department, Horseshoe Lake Chamber of Commerce or PAWS in memory of Barry B. Fry.
