Barbara Swan

Barbara Swan, 73, of Cape Girardeau, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born Nov. 17, 1934, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Otis G. and Vernita Coates Swan.

Swan was a graduate of John S. Cobb High School and attended Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. She worked more than 40 years at Ralph Edwards Sportswear and Thorngate Ltd. and was currently director at Precious Time Day Care Center.

She was a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church, active in various departments, and former member of the choir.

Survivors include a son, Darryl Swan of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Robert Swan of Boston; a sister, Mary Swan of Boston; and an aunt with whom she made her home, Ursie Black.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time Saturday at Second Missionary Baptist Church.

The funeral will be at noon Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Cecil Thomas Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.

Williams Funeral Home in Charleston, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.
