BARBARA SINGLETON

EAST PRAIRIE -- Barbara Hockersmith Singleton, 56, of Poplar Bluff, died Sunday, May 12, 1996, at Doctors Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, following an extended illness.

She was born Aug. 23, 1939, in East Prairie, daughter of Eugene and Elsie Frix True. She married Emro Hockersmith, who preceded her in death.

Singleton was a retired inspector with State of Missouri Residential Care Facility Department, and was a licensed nursing home administrator. She was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Hockersmith of Poplar Bluff, Spud Hockersmith of Slidell, La.; a daughter, Susan Allen of Poplar Bluff; her mother, Elsie Shelby of Wappapello; two sisters, Sharon Powell of Charleston, Janet George of Camdenton, and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son and brother.

Friends may call at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie after 5 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Shelvie Stephens officiating. Burial will be in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
