BARBARA PROFFER

JACKSON -- Barbara Proffer, 84, of Memphis, Tenn., died Thursday, May 1, 1997, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

She was born June 30, 1912, at Matthews, daughter of Frank E. and Bertha Radcliff. She and Clifford J. Proffer were married Dec. 27, 1947. He died July 25, 1986.

While living in St. Louis Proffer worked at Barnes Hospital Eye Clinic. The couple moved to Jackson in 1971, and then she moved to Memphis after the death of her husband.

Proffer was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church and Jackson Garden Club in Jackson, and Fleur-de-lis African Violet Society in St. Louis.

Survivors include a daughter, Ann Dittmer of St. Louis; a son, Gene Wright of Memphis; a sister, Wanda Critchlow of Sikeston; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Friends may call at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
