YUMA, Ariz. -- Barbara L. Hurst Drew passed away Sunday, Aug. 30, 2020, at Kindred Homes II in Yuma.
She was born Nov. 28, 1939, in Rector, Arkansas, to Henry Lawrence and Opal McGee Hurst. Her early years were spent in Oran, Missouri, where she started school, and in 1957, she graduated from Bell City (Missouri) High School. She graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science and a master's degrees in education.
Barbara taught school at Bell City Elementary School in 1968 and started her 26 years as a learning disability teacher at Chaffee (Missouri) High School in 1969. She touched many lives while teaching there.
On Oct. 19, 1957, she and Charles R. Drew were married in Kentucky. From this union were two children: Brian Drew, born Sept. 24, 1958, and Karen McCain, born Sept. 6, 1961.
Barbara is survived by her son, Brian (Kim) Drew of Chaffee; brother, Stephen (Penny) Hurst of Yuma; and sister, Laura Hurst of Cape Girardeau. Also surviving are grandchildren, Holt Horrell, Jessica Drew and Amanda Masters; and great-grandchildren, Drew and Hannah Wasson; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Due to the COVID-19 virus, no services will be held. A private family celebration of Barbara's life will be held at a later date.
