BENTON, Mo. -- Barbara Kay Chidester, 61, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, at her home in Benton.
She was born Oct. 28, 1957, in Portageville, Missouri, daughter of the late Elmer and Vonie Kirby Atteberry. On Sept. 21, 1972, she was married to Melvin Riley Chidester at Portageville, and he survives of the home in Benton.
Other survivors include two sons, Rodney A. (Emily) Chidester of Benton and Brandon L. (Wendi) Chidester of Sikeston, Missouri; five daughters, Kimberly K. (Timothy) Anderson of Ash Grove, Missouri, Stephanie D. (Michael) Uhrhan of Chaffee, Missouri, Chrystal L. (Regional) Chidester of Commerce, Missouri, Alicia I. (Keith) Chidester of Cape Girardeau and Kathy S. (Stephen) Chidester of Benton; two brothers, Elmer Lewis Atteberry of Tucson, Arizona, and David Atteberry of Blytheville, Arkansas; four sisters, Alice Carnell and Janet Chidester, both of Hayti, Missouri, Joyce Leonard of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, and Judy Schmidt of Dexter, Missouri; 21 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and a grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cape First Sikeston, where visitation will again be held from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Friday.
Burial will follow in the Unity Baptist Cemetery in Benton. Pallbearers will be Shannon Chidester, Douglas Beggs, Austin Uhrhan, Nicholas Ponder, Kodi Chidester and Greg Carlisle.
Ponder Funeral Home of Sikeston is in charge of arrangements.
