EAST PRAIRIE -- Avil Cleo Burgess, 79, of East Prairie, died Wednesday, June 12, 1991, at St. Francis Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 23, 1911, in Lynville, Ky., daughter of Stanley and Ruthie Cook Thomas. She married Walter Burgess Sept. 23, 1939. He died Nov. 29, 1972.
Burgess had lived in Mississippi County since 1939, and was a member of Full Gospel Church here.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Fowler of Chattanooga, Tenn., Shirley Merryman of Olive Branch, Ill.; a brother, Marion Thomas of Cape Girardeau; four sisters, Irene Thomas and Elizabeth Peterson of East Prairie, Imogene Burney of Dorena, Evelyn Presson of Charleston; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth; three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shelby Funeral Chapel here. Mike Johnson will officiate, with burial in East Prairie Memorial Park.
