Avery Delane Hurt, 65, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, at Southeast Hospital.
He was born Oct. 20, 1951, in Cape Girardeau to James and Opal Griffith Hurt. He married Judith Ann Farrow in 1986. She survives.
Avery was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He greatly enjoyed attending ballgames, especially to watch his grandchildren play. He was a supporter of the gift of life through organ donation.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Hurt of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Christopher Hurt of Wisconsin and James Thomas Hurt of North Carolina; two stepdaughters, Lisa (Roger) Thompson of Jackson and Teresa (Mike) Harris of Suffolk, Virginia; a stepson, Michael Price of Jackson; a granddaughter, Makayla Price of Jackson; four grandsons, Dustin (Masey) Hengst of Sikeston, Missouri, Casey Harris of Suffolk and Travis Price and Trevor Thompson, both of Jackson; his great-grandchildren, Klayten, Gracie and Emma Hengst, Dylan, Evan and Easton Thompson and Liam Bryant; three brothers, Frank, Don and Kieth Hurt; two sisters, Brenda Baker and Gloria Steger; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Avery was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Angela Hurt; his parents; and four brothers, Jimmy, Kenneth, Garry and Michael Hurt.
Family and friends may gather from 5 p.m. until the time of service Friday at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Chris Clifton officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
