August R. Meyer, 69, of Cape Girardeau, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 1994, at Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born Nov. 20, 1924, in Kansas City, Kan., son of August and Emma Nolte Meyer. He and Mildred Sue Maxey were married Sept. 28, 1946, in Conway, Ark.
Meyer was director of elementary education at Independence Public Schools. The family moved to Cape Girardeau in 1960.
He was dean of instruction at Southeast Missouri State University from 1960 to July 1975, and then was vice president for administrative services until retiring in December 1986.
Meyer received a doctorate from Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn. He was a member of First Christian Church, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, and a former chairman of United Way.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Carl Meyer of Arnold, Robert Meyer of Slidell, La., Lee Meyer of St. Louis; a daughter, Becky Aldridge of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Leonard Meyer of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sisters, Emily Siefert of Hemet, Calif., Emma Mayrath of Dodge City, Kan., and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.
There is no visitation.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church.
