Funeral service for August Ludwig Vogelsang of Cape Girardeau will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Richard Rolwing will officiate, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Friends may call at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel from 8-10:45 a.m.
Vogelsang, 99, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1993, at the Lutheran Home.
He was born Sept. 11, 1894, in St. Louis, son of August Phillip and Mary Debadine Vogelsang. He and Ann Isabell Nicholas were married June 27, 1917, at Brentwood. She died in 1965.
Vogelsang was a machinist at American Steel and Scullin Steel Companies in St. Louis. He helped organize the first labor union in St. Louis.
Survivors include a brother, Edwin Vogelsang of St. Louis; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, brother and sister.
