MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Arvie Dale "Buck" Johnson, 86, of Marble Hill passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Aug. 20, 1925, at Bonne Terre, Mo., son of Courtney Lawrence and Oriole E Johnson. He and Lillie Marie Barks were married April 10, 1945, in Corning, Ark. She passed away Nov. 9, 2003.
Buck and his wife were owners of Johnson's five-and-dime store in Lutesville 30 years. He was a member of VFW Post 5900, served on Marble Hill Fire Department, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Marble Hill.
Johnson served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II in the European, African and Middle Eastern Campaigns and American area.
Survivors include a son, Randall and wife Brenda Johnson of Marble Hill; four daughters, Brenda and husband Kenneth Underwood of Bardwell, Ky., Sandra Estes and Rhonda Johnson of Marble Hill, Susie Johnson of Jackson; two brothers, Olen Johnson of Davenport, Fla., Donald Johnson of Bonne Terre; two sisters, Verna White of Jackson, Ruth Gordon of Cahokia, Ill.; 15 grandchildren, Stephanie Myers, Tyler Nalley, Kristal Ward, Shannon Estes, Tennille Roberson, Kendall Estes, Karen Walker, Kent Underwood, Chris Rhodes, Tyson Rayburn, Todd Johnson, Jill Strong, Danielle Gemeinhardt, Courtney Vance, Brianna Vance; and 25 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, five brothers and a sister.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Monday to service time at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Michael Sower and Dr. John Englehart officiating. Interment will be in Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery near Marble Hill, with full military honors provided by Missouri Military Honors Team.
