Arthur Eugene Pope, 75, passed away Monday, Nov. 28, 2005.
He was born Oct. 28, 1930, in St. Louis, son of Arthur and Ethel Brown Pope.
He went to school at Bell City and Oran, Mo., graduating from Bell City in 1948. Shortly after high school he entered the U.S. Air Force, where he served 23 years. He had three tours of duty overseas, one in remote Turkey, one in Izmir, Turkey, and one in Casablanca, Morocco, plus a year in Vietnam.
Mr. Pope was a member of San Bernardino Masonic Lodge 178 F&AM, Scottish Rite, 32nd Degree KCCH, Al Malaikah Temple, San Bernardino Shrine Club, and past state president of California Association of High Twelve Clubs.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Madeleine Burger Pope; two daughters, Cynthia Karlen and Fred of Santa Rosa, Calif., Cheryl Pope of Bethalto, Ill.; a son, Todd Pope of Bethalto; a stepdaughter, Traci Austin and Tom of San Bernardino; a brother, Kenneth Pope and Viva Jean of Oran, Mo.; two sisters, Pat Reddick and Jess of Jackson, Carolyn Caudle and J.C. of O'Fallon, Mo.; three grandchildren, Michelle Karlen, Chris Karlen and Elise Austin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Terry Eugene.
A service was held Dec. 5 at Riverside National Cemetery, with U.S. Air Force and Masonic rites conducted.
Bobbitt Memorial Chapel in San Bernardino was in charge of arrangements.
