BENTON, Mo. — Arthur “Art” Louis Ziegler, 89, of Benton died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Aug. 7, 1927, in Cape Girardeau to Anton and Emma Burger Ziegler. He and Anita Glastetter were married Aug. 12, 1947, at New Hamburg, Missouri. She preceded him in death May 6, 2006.
He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton. Art was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Cape Girardeau. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus in Sikeston, Missouri.
He worked 25 years for Kroger and then 25 years as owner of Ziegler’s Best Way in Benton.
He was a big Cardinals baseball fan and loved to do yard work, especially mowing. Art was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Survivors include a son, Randy Ziegler of Benton; five grandchildren, Anita (Richard) Ditto, Jon (Laura) Ziegler, Brandi (Chris) Kilburn, Barry (Christy) Ziegler and Lee Ziegler; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Ada Ree Neeley; brother, Tony Ziegler; and two sisters, Delores and Dorothy Ziegler.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton. Parish prayers will be said at 7 p.m.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Michael Casteel officiating. Burial will be at St. Denis Church Cemetery in Benton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Denis School.
