Armella McClain

Armella Agatha McClain, 91, of Kelso, Mo., died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Aug. 11, 1918, at New Hamburg, Mo., daughter of George and Katie Glueck Scherer. She married Milburn E. "Red" McClain on Sept. 25, 1946, at New Hamburg. He preceded her in death Jan. 7, 1980.

Armella was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, St. Ann's Sodality, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary Council 6420 and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Survivors include a son, Larry (Nancy) McClain; two daughters, Georgia (Dave) Carman and Charlene (Rick) Weber; a daughter-in-law, Beth McClain, all of Kelso; a brother, Cletus Scherer of Benton, Mo.; seven grandchildren, John Carman, Amy Smiley, Alan Weber, Travis McClain, Kasie Ralls, Erin Mitchell and Brent McClain; two stepgrandchildren, Geoff Hannan and Keisha German; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Richie McClain; two brothers; and seven sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus prayer service at 7:15 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City, celebrated by the Rev. Oliver Clavin. Burial will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery.
