Aristeo R. "Art" Islas, 82, passed away quietly Saturday, May 7, 2005, at Spooner Health System in Spooner, Wis.
He was born Sept. 29, 1922, in Terreon, Mexico. He came to the United States at the age of 16 and became a U.S. citizen.
Art enjoyed his work in elegant restaurants. He began as a bus boy and became a maitre d'. He loved cooking, fishing and dancing, but of all his passions, he enjoyed cooking best. He was a head chef in two large hospitals later in life. He had also been a Latin dancer and taught dancing.
Art was married to Alice, widowed, and remarried to Kathy, who also preceded him in death.
He is survived by two daughters, Helen (Terry) Beltezore of Trego, Wis., Vicki (Tom) Stone of Cape Girardeau; four sons, Robert Islas of Chicago, Aristeo Islas Jr. of Cape Girardeau, Allan Islas of Sweden, Edgan Islas of Mexico; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to Alice and Kathy, he was preceded in death by two brothers and eight sisters.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Dahl Funeral Home in Spooner.
A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
