ESSEX -- Archie Grant Pierce, 92, of Essex died Monday, March 27, 2000, at his home.
He was born Oct. 7, 1907, in Hillsboro, son of Frank Marion and Cora Virginia Partney Pierce. He and Mary Jane Minker were married Sept. 9, 1931, in Hillsboro. She died April 23, 1989.
A self-employed farmer all his life, he moved to Southeast Missouri in 1937. He was a member of Cline's Island General Baptist Church and was currently a deacon and trustee. He was a former Sunday School teacher and treasurer.
Survivors include a son, Glenn Pierce of Essex; a daughter, Betty Clifton of Lees Summit; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, three brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, and at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in DeSoto after 10 a.m. Thursday.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in DeSoto, with the Rev. Ronnie Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery near DeSoto.
