Anthony P. Essner, 74, 800 S. Pacific, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1992, at his home. He was born July 10, 1918, at Benton, son of Eugene and Clara Diebold Essner. He and Leana Felter were married Nov. 14, 1945, at Benton. Essner was a building and remodeling contractor here more than 45 years, having been a carpenter's apprentice with Penzel Construction Co. He was an active member of St. Mary's Cathedral, and served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II...

Anthony P. Essner, 74, 800 S. Pacific, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1992, at his home.

He was born July 10, 1918, at Benton, son of Eugene and Clara Diebold Essner. He and Leana Felter were married Nov. 14, 1945, at Benton.

Essner was a building and remodeling contractor here more than 45 years, having been a carpenter's apprentice with Penzel Construction Co. He was an active member of St. Mary's Cathedral, and served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Kenneth Essner of Florence, S.C., Steve and James Essner of Cape Girardeau; five daughters, Marilyn Hughey, Judy Heuring, Ann Frey and Denise Wiesner of Cape Girardeau, Mary DeLoach of Shreveport, La.; a brother, Paul Essner of Benton; five sisters, Mary Kirn and Clara Brucker of Jackson, Matilda Helmer of Oakhurst, Calif., Cyrilla Brandenberg of Houston, Texas, Alma Bunting of Palm Harbor, Fla., and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and sister.

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Cathedral. Msgr. Richard Rolwing will officiate, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 7:30, and KC rosary at 8.
