On Monday, July 20, 2020, Anthony Miller of Cape Girardeau -- beloved son, brother, uncle and nephew -- died at Saint Francis Medical Center.
Although he was only 21 years old, Anthony affected many people in his lifetime. He was deeply committed to being a hard worker and a family man.
He graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School in 2018 with aspirations of achieving various dreams and to be successful. Anthony worked at HAVCO Wood Products, where he was labeled an outstanding employee.
The community was immensely affected by Anthony's love and affection toward family and friends. Many community members speak of his kind, infectious smile, basketball skills and dance moves.
Anthony was very uplifting and a community advocate for change.
Anthony Miller was born July 1, 1999, in New Orleans to Anthony Smith and Sherrell Miller Ott.
He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Sherrell Miller Ott, and his father, Elijah Ott; grandmother, Dorothy Smith of Paulina, Louisiana; five sisters, J'uan Hall, C'ion Miller, Kierra Miller, Anitra Dabney and T'Kiya Williams; stepsiblings, Victoria Robinson, Myranda Robinson and Emileo Robinson; aunts, Linette (Henry) McCoy of Dexter, Missouri, Patricia Miller of Cape Girardeau, Tonya Calhoun of Metairie, Louisiana, Annie Torrence of Summit, Mississippi, Myrtis (Jessie) Torrence of Magnolia, Mississippi, and Patricia Roberts of Avondale, Louisiana; uncles, Richard (Bentrell) Miller Jr. of Metairie and Richard (Unique) Bell of Algiers, Louisiana, and Solomon Ott of Avondale, Louisiana; cousins/siblings, Henry McCoy Jr., Daniel (Hannah) McCoy, Stephen McCoy, Raezheem Miller, Ryzhell Miller and Reginald Waker; and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Anthony was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Richard Miller and Freddie Smith; great-grandmother, Dorothy Bourgeois; grandmother, Ida Miller; grandfather, Matthew William; and aunt, Vinetta Miller.
Anthony also leaves behind many memories with his girlfriend, roommates, friends, coworkers and church members.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at True Vine Ministries, 1224 Bloomfield St. in Cape Girardeau, with Bishop Byron Bonner officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday.
Funeral service will also be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Ministries Church of God in Christ, 3404 Andover St., Jefferson, Louisiana 70121, with Elder James Williams officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday.
Entombment will follow at Providence Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Metairie.
Ford and Sons Funeral Home is handling local arrangements along with Richardson Funeral Homes in Louisiana.
