ANNA, Ill. -- Anna E. "Granny" Cassel, 96, of Anna passed away at 8:10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at the City Care Center in Anna. She was born Nov. 20, 1912, in Steele, Mo., the daughter of William A. and Martha E. Burchett Headrick. She married John C. Cassel on Oct. 10, 1940, in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death July 12, 2007...

ANNA, Ill. -- Anna E. "Granny" Cassel, 96, of Anna passed away at 8:10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at the City Care Center in Anna.

She was born Nov. 20, 1912, in Steele, Mo., the daughter of William A. and Martha E. Burchett Headrick. She married John C. Cassel on Oct. 10, 1940, in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death July 12, 2007.

Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn Cox of Anna; a sister-in-law, Ann Winn of Anna; two grandchildren, Roger (Sharon) Jones of Jonesboro, Ill., and Dale (Linda) Jones of Anna; five great-grandchildren, Shane (Sara A.) Jones of Anna, Sara Marie Jones and boyfriend Matt Verble of Anna, Brian Jones of Anna, Nicole (Kevin) Tucker of Jonesboro and Steven R. (Michelle) Jones of Tamms, Ill.; seven great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

Cassel was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John C. Cassel.

She was a member of the Anna Heights Baptist Church in Anna.

The family would like to thank City Care Center of Anna for the kind and compassionate care given to "Granny."

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna until the funeral hour.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mitch Jackson officiating. Interment will be in the Anna Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the City Care Center in Anna. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
