Ann Sylvia Harllee Schade, 92, died peacefully Friday, March 26, 2010, at Cottonwood Manor in Denton, Texas.

She was born Oct. 28, 1917, in Charleston, S.C. Her parents, John William and Lily Bell Canty Harllee preceded her in death, as did two brothers, Oliver Vincent (Pat) Harllee and William Raphael (Bill) Harllee.

Ann spent her childhood in Awendaw, S.C., Chicago and Jackson. She considered Jackson her home. It was here that she met Arther Schade. They were married April 12, 1941, in Cuba, Mo. He preceded her in death.

She graduated from Jackson High School. She instilled in her children a strong commitment to higher education, which has been passed down to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She enjoyed working with children and considered her work as a Girl Scout leader to be one of her most gratifying contributions. She was a member of Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Denton, and was active in her Sunday school class at Southmont Baptist Church in Denton. She loved to hear and tell little jokes and was known for her sense of humor and happy spirit.

She is survived by a daughter, Jane Ann Schade Henderson and husband Rex of Denton; a son, Paul Harllee Schade and wife Sandra of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; two grandchildren, LeAnn Henderson Hardin (Brent) of Avon, Conn., Rex Harris Henderson (Kristi) of Atlanta, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Grace and Rachel Hardin, Silas, Seth, Jack and Josiah Henderson; numerous nieces and nephews and their children.

She made many friends in Denton and continued to value the friendships established through the years.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. April 18 at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 2121 E. University Drive in Denton, with Peggy Ogden-Howe officiating.

At Ann's request, good friends and cherished loved ones will contribute to the service.

DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton is in charge of arrangements.
