BIRCH TREE -- Anderson M. Davis, 98, of Birch Tree, formerly of Charleston, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at Birch View Manor following an extended illness.
He was born June 6, 1899, in White County, Ill., son of David M. and Minnie Hill Davis. On Nov. 8, 1923, he was married to Opal Oliver. She died Nov. 10, 1963.
He lived most of his life in Mississippi County, and for the last 14 years, lived in the Birch Tree area. During his early years, he was a "Hard Road" worker, and years later retired as a farm laborer.
He was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Jeffries of Sikeston, Betty Crowley of Bertrand and Pat Sanders of Birch Tree; two sisters, Jessie Vaughn and Jewell Camp, both of Dexter; 27 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandson.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by five sons, two sisters, a grandson and great-grandson.
Friends may call at the Shelby Funeral Chapel after 5 p.m. today.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel, with Brother Gerald Penn officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
