CHARLESTON -- Amanda Rodgers Butler, 78, of Charleston died Saturday, March 28, 1998, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
She was born Dec. 5, 1919, in Bernard, Miss., daughter of Willie and Verla Harris Moore. She and Bryant Rodgers were married in 1939. He died in 1972. She later married Evie Butler in 1974, who died in 1982.
Butler was a cook at DAEOC Head Start more than 31 years. She was a member of Mercy Seat Baptist Church.
Survivors include seven sons, Dr. Willie Curtis of Bowie, Md., Bryant Rodgers III and Ray Rodgers of Rock Island, Ill., Phillip, Fred, Lenzey and Michael Rodgers, all of Charleston; four daughters, Olestine Howard of Rock Island, Dianna Gorden of Florissant, Cindy Rodgers and Amanda Williams of Charleston.
Also surviving are two stepchildren, Remona Bankhead and Reginal Johnson of Flint, Mich.; a brother, James "Sonny" Moore of Charleston; 33 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Sparks Funeral Home from 7-8 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mercy Seat Church, with the Rev. J.L. Posey officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
