Alvina 'Totsie' Glover

Alvina "Totsie" Glover, 93, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, April 29, 2017, at her home.

She was born Nov. 17, 1924, in Cape Girardeau to Johnny and Mary Brassfield McComb. She and Timothy Glover were married July 26, 1974, in Waukegan, Illinois. He preceded her in death Nov. 25, 1985.

She was a 1941 graduate of John S. Cobb High School and 1945 graduate of Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee. She worked as a principal and teacher at Hoe School in Scott County from 1946 through 1947. She worked as a secretary at John S. Cobb High School from 1947 through 1948. She later worked for SEMO Area Agency on Aging, where she received a 20-year award for outstanding service. She was an avid bowler and a "second mother" to many nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. James AME Church, where she played piano.

Survivors include one nephew, Edward Pikes Sr. of Cape Girardeau; four great-nephews, Edward (Angie) Pikes Jr. of Cape Girardeau, Elvin Pikes of Cape Girardeau, Edmund (Willa) Pikes of Cape Girardeau and Lance (Chala) Garner of LaVergne, Tennessee; and one sister, Patricia Lewis of Greensboro, North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Lucretia Thomas; and one brother-in-law, Robert Lewis.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at St. James AME Church in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral service will be at noon Saturday at the church, with Ervin Williams and Johnny Shelton officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
