Alvina Virginia Compass, 77, of Scott City died Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born April 6, 1937, in Fornfelt (Scott City) to Thomas Alvin and Josephine Mirgeaux Petitt. She and Eugene Lawrence Compass were married Feb. 11, 1956, in Scott City. He preceded her in death May 15, 1991.
Alvina was secretary at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, CCW, and sang in the choir.
She is survived by three sons, Larry (Kim) Compass and Greg (Leslie) Compass of Scott City and Jeff Compass of Los Angeles; six brothers, Tom Petitt of Illinois, Jerry Petitt, Bill Petitt and Mike Petitt of Scott City, Richard Petitt of Springfield, Missouri, and David Petitt of Chaffee; four sisters, Myrime Morrill, Shirley Gaither and Lorene Petitt of Scott City, Joyce Blattel of Gordonville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Matthew Eakins; stepmother, Venus Petitt; and a sister.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church. The rosary will be at 7.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Oliver Clavin officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
