LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Alvin Joseph Seiler, 75, gained his eternal rest in the early morning hour Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born March 4, 1941, at Leopold, Alvin was the oldest child of Herman "Doc" and Helen Matilda Brauer Seiler.

He was educated in the Leopold schools, graduating in 1959. On June 19, 1971, he married Arleen Marie Stause at St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold. She preceded him in death Oct. 14, 1997. Alvin and Arleen had five children: Daniel, Darlene, Randy, Ronda and Seirra.

He began employment with Bud Vandeven Farms as a teenager in 1956, and in 1959 was employed with Crader Equipment. In 1961 he became a mechanic and truck driver for Bond Enterprises, but soon went to work for Elfrink Truck Lines of Advance, Missouri, as shop foreman, diesel mechanic and truck driver until retiring after 22 years. He also was a self-employed mechanic, an accomplished welder, constructor and builder, engineering several projects.

Alvin had many talents, one of which became a passion as a young child when his father taught him to play the guitar. He was well-known as an accomplished guitarist for various venues in the area. During the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, he was the lead guitarist for the band Arleen, Irma & The Bad Boys, and then in 1990s and 2000s for the Norman Tuschoff Country Touch Band.

He was of the Catholic faith and was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, St. Isidore Council 5898, both of Leopold.

Loving survivors include his children, Daniel Seiler of Leopold, Darlene (Rick) Vandeven of Chaffee, Missouri, Randy (Michelle) Seiler and Ronda (Matthew) Kramer, both of Perryville, Missouri, and Seirra Seiler (Allan Brumleve) of Cobden, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Autumn, Amber and Rori Beth Vandeven, Antonia, Domonic and Keitlyn Seiler and Nickolas Kramer; seven stepgrandchildren, Danny, Kim and Sam Harvill, Kelly Thompson, Alyssa Ebert, Lexus Iverson and Noah Kramer; three great-stepgrandchildren, Kendal Harvill, Lylah Wolk and Amelia Thompson; and two sisters, Bernice (Lucky) Schatte of Oran, Missouri, and Eleanor Nenninger (Gerard) Macke of Leopold.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gerald; and a brother-in-law, Stanley Nenninger.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill, Missouri. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m., with the rosary led by the Knights of Columbus.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Glennon, Missouri, with the Rev. David Coon as celebrant. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Leopold.
