Alvin August Messmer, 65, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Dec. 29, 1932, at Kelso, son of Edward V. and Clara Martin Messmer. He and Thyra Strop were married Jan. 26, 1952, in Cape Girardeau.
Messmer was a 1951 graduate of St. Mary's High School. He was a sales representative at Associated Building Center from 1962-86, and was a maintenance worker at Sansone Co. from 1988-91. He also operated Al Messmer Floor Sanding for many years.
He was a member of St. Vincent's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dean Messmer of Cape Girardeau, Scot Messmer of Douglasville, Ga.; two daughters, Lisa Niswonger of Gordonville, Debbi Gerecke of Jackson; three brothers, Clarence Messmer of Farmington, Cletus Messmer of Scott City, James Messmer of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Edvira Rhodes of Cape Girardeau; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, a brother, and two sisters.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
