Alvin Leslie Gann, 87, of Jackson passed away Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, at Monticello House in Jackson.
He was born Aug. 16, 1929, in Elvins, Missouri, son of Robert L. and Beulah W. Stricklin Gann. He and Sally Pender Youngblood were married April 19, 1981.
Alvin graduated from Elvins High School and played baseball and basketball. He graduated from the University of Missouri in 1954 with a bachelor of science in forestry. His first job was with International Paper in Arkansas.
He was drafted into the Army in August 1954, served 19 months in Tokyo and was honorably discharged. Returning home, he worked for the Missouri Conservation Commission until joining Raygas Distributing Co. in Ellington, Missouri. After selling the gas company to Phillips Oil Co., he taught school. He later worked for Production Credit Association as a loan officer, until retiring in 1984 and moving to Jackson.
He was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. Alvin enjoyed Mizzou Tiger football and Cardinals baseball. He enjoyed traveling to Canada and had traveled to all 50 states of the United States.
Loving survivors include his wife, Sally Gann; three children, Cindy (Larry) Gastineau of Ellington, David Youngblood of Marble Hill, Missouri, and David Gann of Rolla, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Erin Tucker, Keri Morrow, Brian Gastineau, Amanda Gann, Krista Gann, Shawna Williams and Louis Williams; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosalie Rayfield Gann; his daughter, Susan; and two brothers, Ed and Larry Gann.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday in Chapel B at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kevin Coffee officiating. Interment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, with full military honors.
