Alva Edward Miller, 88, of Scott City died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at his home.
He was born March 17, 1925, at Poplar Bluff, Mo., son of Robert J. and Edith E. Simpkins Miller. He and Jean Hodge were married Jan. 14, 1946, at Poplar Bluff. She preceded him in death Feb. 5, 2005.
Alva had worked as a dispatcher for Union Electric for 41 years, retiring in 1988. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Scott City.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Margaret (Rick) Bunting of Campbell, Mo., and Gayle (Jerry) Flentge of Perryville, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Rhonda McCulley; three brothers; and a sister.
Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The Rev. Jeremy Sells will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Lightner Memorial Cemetery in Scott City.
