COMMERCE, Mo. -- Alta Mae "Babe" Lawson, 80, of Russell Springs, Ky., died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Russell County Hospital in Russell Springs. She was born Oct. 17, 1920, at Commerce, daughter of Ulysses and Addie Sanders Edmonds. She and Ernest Lawson were married Sept. 28, 1951. He died Nov. 11, 1983...

COMMERCE, Mo. -- Alta Mae "Babe" Lawson, 80, of Russell Springs, Ky., died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Russell County Hospital in Russell Springs.

She was born Oct. 17, 1920, at Commerce, daughter of Ulysses and Addie Sanders Edmonds. She and Ernest Lawson were married Sept. 28, 1951. He died Nov. 11, 1983.

Lawson owned and operated Cumberland County News in Burkesville, Ky. She was a member of Burkesville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Stanley Lawson of Columbia, Ky.; a daughter, Lynette Price of Russell Springs; two stepsons, Larry and Jerry Lawson of Indianapolis, Ind.; a brother, Ray Edmonds of Cape Girardeau; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral was held Wednesday at Norris-New Funeral Home in Burkesville. Calvin Johnson and Jim Kingery officiated. Burial was in Burkesville Cemetery.
