Alma C. Clingingsmith, 89, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born Nov. 14, 1923, in Jackson, daughter of August H. and Annie Nagel Hanselmann. She and Alvin Barrett "Jake" Clingingsmith were married June 29, 1943. He passed away Jan. 27, 2004...

Alma C. Clingingsmith, 89, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Nov. 14, 1923, in Jackson, daughter of August H. and Annie Nagel Hanselmann. She and Alvin Barrett "Jake" Clingingsmith were married June 29, 1943. He passed away Jan. 27, 2004.

Alma was a 1942 graduate of Jackson High School. She worked at the former International Shoe Co. in Jackson.

She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's United Church of Christ in Fruitland but was a longtime member of Emanuel UCC in Jackson, the Bethany Circle, and was a very faithful member of the Wednesday morning Bible study. She was a member of Eastern Star in Jackson, and while her children were young she was involved in their scouting activities. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and loved to make ceramics, especially Nativity scenes. Her greatest joy was taking care of her grandchildren.

Loving survivors include a son, Robert "Bob" Clingingsmith of Cape Girardeau; two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Roger Friedrich of Cape Girardeau and Debbie and Teddy Scholl of Jackson; a sister-in-law, Helen Humes of Jackson; nine grandchildren, Nicole (Tommy) Hazelwood, Keely (Alex) Elfrink, Shannon Friedrich, Kyle Clingingsmith, Blake Friedrich, Andrew Scholl (fiancee, Krissie Daniel), Jacob Scholl, Amanda Scholl and Joshua Scholl; five great-grandchildren, Brittany Hazelwood, Layne Friedrich, Joseph Elfrink, Jaxson Hazelwood and Jaycee Hazelwood.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Karen Clingingsmith; and two brothers, Alvin and Willie Hanselmann.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery at Fruitland.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Cemetery Fund or Emanuel United Church of Christ.
